Plan to spend the morning of March 22nd with Leonard Domino & Associates to help make sure you are really prepared for the next stages of the LHIN evolution…
Presenting a unique executive-level planning seminar about managing the politics, relationships and policy issues of Ontario’s new LHIN-based heath services system.
“We’re entering the first true LHIN budget cycle and the way it works this year will do a lot to determine the future. Is your organization really ready for that?”
Leonard Domino & Associates has a detailed watching brief on the entire LHIN evolution on behalf of clients from across the whole spectrum of health services from hospitals to community agencies to provider organizations.
We know the actors – the people who will be making the key decisions at the political, policy and bureaucratic levels both province-wide and regionally. We understand their objectives – the things they hope to achieve through the LHINs, and the things they absolutely have to achieve. And we’ve watched with interest as health services organizations develop different kinds of partnerships and alliances than we’ve seen in the past.

At the “Keys to Success” Executive Seminar, we’ll share all that knowledge with you to help you prepare to thrive and achieve in Ontario’s new LHIN health services environment.
As a special bonus, the “Keys to Success” Executive Seminar will include a “Minister’s eye view” of the process from our Associate Darren Praznik.
Darren Praznik served as Minister of Health in the Manitoba Government in the late 90s as that province moved to a regional health services organization very similar to the LHINs Ontario is implementing today.
That experience gives him a unique insight into what kinds of strategies were most successful in helping health services organizations achieve their individual objectives in the new regionalized environment.
“Who should attend the ‘Keys to Success’ Executive Seminar?
The Seminar is designed for the people who will be making the key strategic decisions for your organization as you work to adapt to the new LHIN environment – Senior Management and key Board Members.
These are the people who can gain most for the insights – including Darren Praznik’s unique ‘Minister’s eye view’ – we’ll be sharing at the seminar.
“The transition to a regional structure for health services involves a series of negotiations between and among health service providers and organizations and the government. Some negotiating approaches work better than others.”
That series of negotiations – and the strategies most likely to be successful – are the main subject matter for this unique, executive-level seminar.
We know, from our own discussions and from Praznik’s experience as Minister of Health in Manitoba that the organizations who understand all the aspects of the process – including political aspects as well as the public policy, quality of service and value-for-money issues – will be most successful in achieving their goals.”
“One key to success will be setting objectives that respect the intent and the integrity of the regionalization process.”
That’s was true during the regionalization of health services in Manitoba, and it will be every bit as true as the LHINs evolve here in Ontario.
And identifying those kinds of goals is not always easy. The Boards and Senior Managers of organizations are used to operating in one environment with one set of relationships. There’s a natural tendency to want to defend that existing, relatively comfortable situation.
Making the leap to visualizing how your operations fit into the new environment is not easy or automatic. But it is crucial to your success.
“Another key factor: the new partnerships and relationships – and the new knowledge about each other that organizations are able to develop.”
As you adapt to a regionalized structure, you need different knowledge about other actors in the system and different relationships at both the working and the advocacy levels.
Once again – this is not easy or automatic, but it can make all the difference to your organization’s ability to thrive and achieve in the new environment.
Of course, every organization faces unique challenges. So we’re limiting the number of participants in the “Keys to Success” Executive Seminar.
We want to make sure that each organization has the time to consider the lessons of Manitoba’s experience – developing awareness of political aspects of the change, setting objectives that the government and others will want to help you achieve and building the new knowledge and relationships you’ll need to thrive and achieve in the new LHIN environment.
Act now to book the morning of March 22nd to work with Leonard Domino & Associates to help make sure you are really prepared for the next stages of the LHIN evolution.
Effective Government Negotiation
Do you work with government on a regular basis? Would you like to improve your ability to deal with elected officials? Do you believe your firm would benefit from better relations with government? Most importantly, would you like to know how to respond when government policies threaten to adversely affect your business? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, or just believe your negotiating skills could use a little work, you owe it to yourself (and your firm) to attend Leonard Domino’s Effective Lobbying and Negotiation seminar.
As a former politician, and full-time lobbyist since 1984, Leonard will teach you the basics of maintaining good working relations with government, and the art of negotiation:
- The difference between compromise and integrated, collaborative solutions which please both sides.
- What to do and what not to do when meeting with elected officials.
- The ability to quickly identify the values and needs of any government.
- An understanding of how Cabinet Ministers make decisions.
- How to take advantage of a pre-election period.
Leonard’s seminar is different from others in the sense that participants are encouraged to do much more than listen; creativity and hands-on skills are encouraged through role-playing. You will acquire skills that will give you an “edge” over your competition.
